Poop Etiquette - Stepping in it

If you have a dog sooner or later, (probably sooner) you are going to step in it. Don’t freak out. In San Francisco we are just happy it was dog poop.

My advice is to do what you can do before you get home, either on grass or the corner of a curb, and then leave the shoes outside or as I have to -place them in the tub. Let it dry, probably 24hrs. Then when it has solidified: use a toothpick or chopstick to scrape it off. If you’re lucky it might come off in one big piece. This is far easier and less gross than trying to power wash it off with a hose.

Of course this assumes you have second pair to wear in the meantime; if not this is a good excuse to buy another pair of shoes.

One time I was interviewing dog walkers and this woman showed up wearing Manolo Blahniks. I did not hire her. I’m hiring a dog-walker, not an account executive. Look for Converse Chucks or Old School Vans. Those are proper tools of the trade.

But if you do step in human feces: those shoes need to immediately go in the outside trash.
